In the land of Chiang Rai, surrounded by soaring mountains and crystal-clear rivers, the melodies of local wisdom (Chiang Rai Creative City) resound, blending with the cool breeze, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

When Ban Khom Kham Community Enterprise members from Muang Tuet Subdistrict, Nan Province, visited and exchanged knowledge with the Chiang Saen Handicraft Enterprise, as Chiang Rai has now been recognised a  member of the Creative Citiesy of Design, this valuable event took place from March 9-10, 2024.

The Symphony of Lanna Lanterns

Lanna lanterns is one of Lanna folk-craft designs, which is like a symphony of local wisdom, passed down from generation to generation, reflecting the unique and valuable culture of Lanna. This learning and sharing craft designing ideas between Nan and Chiang Rai craftsmen was like an orchestra of wisdom, playing the melodies of new lantern design together. Two cities, two cultures, combining  lantern making techniques harmoniously like beautifully orchestrated music.

โคมล้านนา เปรียบเสมือนบทเพลงแห่งภูมิปัญญา สืบทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น สะท้อนถึงเอกลักษณ์และวัฒนธรรมอันล้ำค่าของล้านนา การแลกเปลี่ยนครั้งนี้ เปรียบเสมือนวงดนตรีแห่งภูมิปัญญา ที่บรรเลงบทเพลงแห่งโคมร่วมกัน สองเมือง สองวัฒนธรรม ผสมผสานกลมกลืน ดั่งเสียงดนตรีที่ประสานเสียงอย่างงดงาม

Lessons from the Master

Ajarn Kritdanai Sombatmai, a master of Lanna handicrafts, acted as the conductor of this symphony. He shared his knowledge, techniques, and meticulousness in Lanna lantern making with the new generation of artists, passing on his long-accumulated experience and wisdom like melodious notes played to the audience.

อาจารย์กฤตดนัย สมบัติใหม่ ปราชญ์แห่งหัตถศิลป์ล้านนา เปรียบเสมือนวาทยากรผู้ชี้นำบทเพลง อาจารย์ถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ เทคนิค และความประณีตในการผลิตโคมล้านนา สู่ศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ แบ่งปันประสบการณ์และภูมิปัญญาที่สั่งสมมายาวนาน ดั่งโน้ตเพลงอันไพเราะ บรรเลงสู่หูผู้ฟัง


Collaborative Creation

Artists from both cities co-created new lantern designs, blending the unique identities of Nan and Chiang Rai. Like an orchestra playing a new piece, this symphony of fusion showcased creativity and the power of exchange and learning.

ศิลปินจากสองเมือง ร่วมกันสร้างสรรค์ผลงานโคมรูปแบบใหม่ ผสมผสานเอกลักษณ์ของน่านและเชียงราย ดั่งวงดนตรีที่บรรเลงบทเพลงใหม่ บทเพลงแห่งการผสมผสาน สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความคิดสร้างสรรค์ และพลังแห่งการแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้

Beyond Techniques

This exchange went beyond techniques and methods; it was an exchange of cultures, stories, and experiences. Craftspeople from both communities learned about each other's lifestyles, local wisdom, and different perspectives. This led to self-development and the advancement of handicrafts, reflecting the power of exchange, learning, and the future growth of handicrafts in Nan Province.

การแลกเปลี่ยนครั้งนี้ ไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่แค่เทคนิคและวิธีการ แต่เป็นการแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรม เรื่องราว และประสบการณ์ ช่างฝีมือจากทั้งสองชุมชนได้เรียนรู้วิถีชีวิต ภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น และมุมมองที่แตกต่าง นำไปสู่การพัฒนาตนเองและต่อยอดงานหัตถศิลป์ สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงพลังแห่งการแลกเปลี่ยน เรียนรู้ และการเติบโตของงานหัตถกรรมในจังหวัดน่านในอนาคต
