On a night with a gentle winter breeze sweeping through the length of Suriyapong Road, the smiles of passersby felt brighter and more meaningful than ever. From Wat Ming Muang, past the vibrant Walking Street, to Suan Sri Muang, this renewed energy recalls the great trial Nan faced just a few months ago. While the remnants of mud and the 200-year flood crisis remain a heart-wrenching memory, they also marked the dawn of a communal spirit stronger than ever before.

The recent “Nan: The Legacy of Love” (Sri Nakhara Fuean Fa) event was a profound reflection of true recovery. More than just a festive celebration to welcome 2026, it was a grand declaration of Nan’s resilience—a city capable of transforming sorrow into creative power with remarkable speed.

Suriyapong Road was transformed into the “Road of Faith,” stretching over 888 meters and acting as a “giant handkerchief” that embraced the entire city. Amidst the brilliant lights stood the “8 Nan Naga”—eight guardian Naga lanterns that are far more than symbols of belief. They are masterpieces distilled from the souls of Nan’s people across all 15 districts, who united to craft them as beacons of encouragement and blessings for every visitor.

The light of faith from these Nagas served to heal wounded hearts, signaling that Nan is ready to welcome the world with a smile in every season. This exquisite display truly reflects the identity of a “UNESCO Creative City”—a city that is not only alive but breathing through its art and heritage.

The most inspiring aspect is the hope that this beauty will endure. These lanterns are envisioned to be shared and placed at key landmarks throughout the province, serving as cultural ambassadors.
